European Health Card
We would like you to urge you to apply for or renew your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) if you’re from the UK, European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.
An EHIC lets you get state healthcare in other EEA countries and Switzerland at a reduced cost or sometimes for free.
There will be no change to the rights and status of EU nationals living in the UK, nor UK nationals living in the EU, while the UK remains in the EU.
Sometimes we have applicants, who arrive without an EU card and this causes huge problems when they need urgent medical care. You may also take out private cover prior to your arrival, if need be, but it's best to travel safe when flying to a foreign country.
Watch out for websites demanding a fee for the EHIC. Search on the internet for “EHIC” and you’ll find sites that describe themselves as “reviewing” or “forwarding” services, charging a fee to process your application. They often look official, but scroll to the bottom and you’ll find a tick box asking for cash.
ALWAYS use the official site, www.ehic.org.uk or one that is legit in your country.
